Event Overview

Miles Over The Moon will be held on Friday evening, July 16 2021. The race begins and ends at the Bentley Academy Innovation School (formerly known as Bentley Academy Charter School) at 25 Memorial Drive in Salem. This is a twilight evening race which starts at 8PM. Race volunteers will be on-site at the Bentley School starting at 6:30PM to assist runners. Race shirt and number pickup will be available on Wednesday July 14 and Thursday July 15 from 12:30-5:30PM at New England Running Company at 43 Enon Street in Beverly. Shirt and number pickup will also be available on-site at the Bentley School. There will also be on-site registration the day of the race. We will have an after-party at Brothers Taverna at 283 Derby Street in Salem.

There is construction occurring at Salem Willows. Please see information below on Safety, Parking and Important Course Tips.

Safety Information

Miles Over The Moon goes through several historic and beautiful areas of Salem. Throughout the course we will have helpful officers and friendly volunteers to guide runners. We have a long history of keeping runners safe during this twilight race. Part of the reason why is due to us informing runners of a few safety items:

  • City Streets will NOT be closed for the race. Please be aware and mind the traffic. We will have a police pace car in front of the lead pack.
  • Please wear bright, reflective clothing on race night.
  • There is construction happening at Salem Willows. You will see this construction during the first mile of the race, as you approach Salem Willows by Dead Horse Beach. Fencing narrows the road for about 0.25 mile. Please be particularly careful as you run through this area.

Parking Information

There is parking for ~75 cars at the Bentley School. Additional parking can be found at Salem Willows, near Dead Horse Beach, and at the grassy field between Fort Ave and Restaurant Row (despite the construction the city has made more parking available in this area). There are also public parking garages closer to our after-party location on Derby Street in Salem. See this link for ideas.

Please DO NOT park on adjacent streets. Salem Police will be marking the area with no-parking signs.

Course Tips

As mentioned Miles Over The Moon goes through several historic and beautiful areas of Salem. Throughout the course we will have helpful officers and friendly volunteers to guide runners. Reviewing these course tips will be of additional assistance as you enjoy the race:

  • Please review our Safety Information, pay particular attention to the construction down at Salem Willows.
  • You will cross over Szetela Lane twice – once approaching the two mile mark as you pass Bentley on Memorial Drive, and another as you exit the bike path returning to the school.
  • The course runs through Salem Common. The curb is flattened as you enter and exit the Common, but please watch your footing. When in the Common, run around on the outer gravel path until you exit on Pleasant Street.
  • Be careful running down Bridge Street to Osgood. Remember that roads are not closed to traffic.
  • Enter the bike path on the left side of Collins Street. Stay straight on the entire bike path, exiting by running straight towards Szetela. Do not follow the bike path left as it curves at the junction.
